Realizing the essence of Siva and Sakti, then Merging with That Ultimate Truth, one becomes a Siddha (a Realized or Perfected Being). But this is not simple "knowledge" which one can learn or "attain", instead it is an experience in Simplicity itself merging in the most Subtle Original source of Being. How do we understand Siva and Sakti then? What do these Names, concepts or symbols represent? How are these Truths Important or Pragmatic in Daily Life? This short article should help to clarify... Perhaps you are familiar with the popular images of Shiva and Shakti. Maybe you know some stories and attributes to these "personalities". However, while these Personalities of Shiva and Shakti are as real or in fact more real than the personalities of "you" and "i" this is not the Ultimate Essence of Siva and Sakti understood by the Siddhars - Immortal Masters of Yoga... These "personal" images of Shiva and Shakti with a face and hands are indeed very real in the sense of that they are Powerful (able to act in this world and others), and can indeed appear to the devotee anywhere in any time. They can be said to be more real than the personalities of "you" or "i" because they have been here since antiquity, and continue to remain long after these personalities of you or i have passed away. They continue as a consistent influence and presence while "you" and "i" move from birth to death imagining a new personality or identity frequently. (Therefore it is safe to say that many of us actually have no idea who we really are...) As stated these images of Shiva and Shakti are indeed powerful "forms" of a personal God very much able to serve each and every devotee/student perfectly. This is very useful, and powerful in itself, no? So what is the very essence of these symbols of Siva and Sakti that leads to the Highest State (Siddha) which is said to be "beyond attainment"? Move into subtler and bigger pictures, "think" with a state of Awareness beyond projection of identity and differences. Siva and Sakti are the Very Essence and Medium of all Being, and all Phenomena. The Simplicity of Infinity itself in all this Great Power and Play... To understand these subtle Truths of Existence with concepts - we may describe Siva and Sakti as follows. Siva is pure Primordial Consciousness, an Undivided and All Pervasive Awareness. Anywhere there is any consciousness at all, it is this One Original Consciousness, all experiences of "individual" consciousness or beings arise within this One Undivided Consciousness - Original Being - Siva. Because all consciousness is sourced within this One original principle of Consciousness, and could not exist without the existence of Consciousness (Siva) itself, this principle of Siva is also called the [Supreme] Self. This Self being one - even appearing as many has Unlimited Power to Experience Being. This is Sakti - Infinite Possibilities as a Pure All-Pervasive Field of Energy. This Sakti beyond an image or form - is the Unlimited Power to Experience the Self as the very medium in which all Phenomena, all images and forms arise. As can be witnessed in the very moment of now as all experience arises, they (Siva & Sakti) are eternally and inseparably merged in a dance of ecstasy beyond description of words which certainly can only be experienced... Imagine if you will to the greatest extent capable of "your" mind all the Infinite Possibilities of Experience that can be had by Consciousness in all the Infinite Possibilities of forms, worlds, circumstances, emotions, knowledge and dramas - all occurring at once. This is Infinity, no limit to the possibilities - so the experience of the all that is and is not - is expanding eternaly in this moment that encompases even the possibilities of past, and future (all time and space) and still the Experience has not hit a boundary. That is the Ecstasy and Knowledge (Yoga) of Siva and Sakti... How do we merge into greater depths of the direct experience of this boundless Being? Focusing on this Ultimate Truth learn to unify the movements, or experiences within consciousness rather than dividing and "pitting" them against each other. Learn to act while surrendering to the Truth which the Understanding of all as One within Siva & Sakti brings. It is easy to see how self-importance can be lost to the joy of we. The freedom from personal attachment and identity to circumstances brings greater clarity to act with ease and strategy to fulfill the outcome of each situation. When this great amazing show of Siva and Sakti is seen for what it is there is a natural feeling of gratitude and reverence to each aspect as important to, reflecting of, and indeed the totality of a Divine Existence. This is why Siva is Dakshinamurti, the original Guru or teacher of Yoga; the Light of Consciousness (Siva) removes ignorance and naturally wisdom emerges as the spontaneous way of Being. When this light of Awareness is on, everything is seen differently by means of that Light. All the divisions and hostility in this world are only the manifestation of ignorance, or lack of awareness of the Truth. With the Light of Consciousness on, and clearly seeing the Truth as All Pervasive, Always Present, Amazingly Magical, and Powerful Being - there can be nothing but the reflection of this as reverence, devotion, and Love. This is worship of everything, a Totality, there is only One, then how can anyone be excluded?
